Cobras Leaned On A Emotional Kent To Victory!

| Monday, September 20, 2010

If being rejected brings out the best in Michael Kent, then please keep on rejecting him.

Michael Kent uncorked 37 points, on top of 5 rebounds and 11 assists in leading RBK Cobras past an undermanned Barangay Goldies 130-126. Kent, playing his second game after suffering another emotional blow, continued his tear following his 39 point output last game around. The basketball player who plays the game not for run but redemption continued his chance of redemption, hitting shots after shots that put the fighting spirit of the Goldies away.

Despite struggling in the first half, including 5 airballs in 7 attempts, Kent picked up in the second half. With Cobras nursing a slim 61-57 advantage, thanks largely to inspired play of Nissan guy, Kent went wild. His 11 point spurt in a span of 10 minutes gave Cobras the entire cushion they needed. Hitting three triples and one wild step back shot that put Joewell Chan up on its feet, little did Goldies knew that they were being blown away by just one single guy, the guy who is nursing his wounded emotions. Score by that time, 83-65 with 15 minutes to play.

Goldies battled back, keeping the game close and within reach. With Kent scoring at will, Nissan guy gave him the box one defense.

Little did he know that Kent can pass the rock too.

By the time Goldies battled back thanks to their box one defense on Kent, he unloaded 6 of his 11 assists to Arnold Tsai and Carlos Chan. His patented drive and dish went ballistic as both Chan and Tsai put on the finishing touches to a game that Kent considered his redemption game. After the game, Kent went into the conference room with little emotion. “We won the game, and it’s nice. We played with just 4 regulars yet we played well.” Asked about his performance, Kent answered confidently. “I just want to be the guy who is not afraid to take big shots. A guy who is not scared to be the goat or hero. I will win games for our team, and I will definitely lose games for us too. But confidence-wise, I just want to be the guy that opponents fear or gave me the ultimate respect in defense. Like I’ve said, my game is maturing. Probably my leadership is also growing. I want to finish strong. This has been a tough year for me again but I’ll be strong enough to face these adversities on my own.

Asked about what he is feeling now, Kent answered in one word.

“Numb”

Carlos Chan backed Kent with 6 triples of his own as Cobras hit 13 triples for the game, 6 from Kent and Chan and one from newly developed shooter in Arnold Tsai. “They were just tough. That guy went ballistic in the second half. They even played without ace guard Ben Lim yet they withstand the pressure.” Joel Lim said.

Goldies played without Sherman Uy. Uy, who leads the team with 23 PPG, sat out due to personal reason. But the story of this game belongs to Michael Kent, a player who vowed redemption on each game. “He has not felt this way ever since we known him. It’s his time. It is his time to really show the whole world who Michael Kent is.” Arnold Tsai said.

Cobras-Campers Preview

| Saturday, July 10, 2010
Heat check anyone?

RBK Cobras guns for their 11th straight victory on Sunday as they face off with another class-A team in Boy Scout Campers at YMCA gym. Fresh from a demolishing a Johen Sy led Dexter Quackies, Cobras now must deal with star point guard Aries Enriquez and his veteran laden guys. "We know they're riding a 10 game run. This will test our mettle. We have to shut down their offensive game because they play like the Orlando Magic. Full offensive firepower." Enriquez said.

It's easier said than done.

With 2 pioneer of Cobras playing inspired basketball, Cobras are again favored to win this game. Carlos Chan, who is playing probably his first season with a girlfriend, is out to prove critics wrong. After a slow start the last time around, Chan responded with timely triples during the Quackies game that shoveled the opponents rally.

And another pioneer of Cobras playing inspired basketball, Michael Kent.

2 years after thrown into limelight, and reviving it again this year due to their winning run, Kent is waxing hot the past 6 games. During the last games, Kent has knocked down at least 4 triples in 5 out of 6 games and compiling average close to 29 PPG, a dissimilar sight he put up last 2 years ago during the Cobras 9 game run. Sources say that Kent have found someone to inspire him, outside of Sheila Gaw.

"It's over. I don't even remember her." Kent said.

"We'll bring our A game tomorrow. We know with the lineup we had, we have a distinct advantage against this team and expect us to use it to our might." Kent said. Cobras, who have yet to lose with Ronald Ke and Kendrick Chua on board, has been immortal in the past 4 months, averaging 125 PPG, a rare sight in YBA(YMCA BAsketball Association).

"They are just so goo din putting up numbers on offensive end. They added inside force, enabling Kent turn into a natural wingman and Chan into a natural Shooting guard. Peewa has been everything for them and Lim quarterbacking the team. We just have to labor so hard to get the W." Enriquez said.

Cobras Match Longest Winning Streak! Rip Quackies!

| Thursday, July 1, 2010
YMCA(AP) - By halftime, Quackies were already celebrating, knowing they're halfway of snapping RBK Cobras 8 game winning run.

But on the Cobras side, all players are thinking quietly, saying "this ain't over".

RBK Cobras leaned on a strong second half surge to rip Dexter Quackies, 130-118 to match the franchise longest winning run at 9 games. With utmost confidence and sheer determination, Cobras eat up the chunk of Quackies lead in just 3 minutes, using a blistering 27-7 run that turned a 61-50 deficit into a 77-68 lead that Cobras never looked back. "Again, another wild finish. We started slow but we recovered in time." Chain said.

"We blew this one away. We had the game under control but somehow lost it in the second half." Michael Ginaysy said. After a slow first half, Cobras were stunned as they were in a thick of a game then suddenly, Potpot and Andison Kaw catch fire that turned a close 33-32 lead into a 61-50 advantage by halftime.

But destiny would not hinder Kent's bid for redemption. Not on the day he had been waiting for a very long time.

Kent responded, firing 19 of his 33 points in the decisive second half. Playing without Ben Lim, Kent was shipped into a playmaker in the first half. But when Cobras needed offense, he lit up by knocking down 5 triples for the game, the most he had during the 9 game run. He and Ronald Ke combined forces that gave Cobras it's biggest lead of the game at 91-77 with 6 minutes remaining in the pay-off period.

"This is one game wherein we can see their depth. They played without Lim yet they still came out on top. Arguably, they can be the best team in the league right now. We just can't match up with them like what we did last year. Unbelievable." Kaw said.

With one more victory, Cobras can claim history. Another rematch against Quackies will do the trick. "We know we can take on these guys. Peewa, Ronald and the rest of the guys are playing well and we know over-confidence is our only enemy. So, let's get it on." Chan said.

NOTES: Kent notched his first double double in points and assists this season, finishing with 33 points and 12 assists. Cobras paraded a new center, Kendrick Chua. Details to be followed. :)

Game Preview: Cobras-Quackies

| Friday, June 25, 2010
YMCA (AP) - If there is one guy on the Cobras roster who wants RBK to equalize their longest winning streak so bad is Michael Kent.

2 years ago, Cobras was on the same trail, notching 9 straight victories before bowing to CKSC Rabbits. It was also the same Michael Kent who critics say, it was the period wherein we saw Kent playing unselfish basketball, which is uncharacteristic of him. 2 years ago, he has Sheila Gaw as his inspiration. 2 years later, he is just playing great.

"I just want it so bad. So bad that it could somehow serves as my redemption." Kent said.

2 years after his rejection moment, Kent is back in a familiar moment, not in rejection mode but his team is playing extreme basketball. Fresh from a magnificent come from behind victory over PSBA Santas, Cobras are back on a verge of tying the franchise longest winning streak.

"This is personal. There's no doubt that I would like to erase all the bad memories of 2008. Now that the season is similar to 2008 season, we as a team would like to achieve more." Kent said.

Cobras are undefeated since acquiring Ronald Ke. His shot-blocking and inside presence has been the missing piece of this team. GM Cheng finally found a gem in Ke. And Ke delivers all the intangibles, leaving the usual scoring to the RBK scorers. "They've improved a lot since last year. They've got great shooters and the addition of Ke brings another dimension into their game." Santa said.

Quackies are next in line for Cobras, hoping to be the jinx to snap their 8 game run. Dubbed as their rivals for the past 2 years, Quackies is the best team to snap Cobras run because of their familiarity. "We know their game. We know who their scorers is and how they run their offensive sets." Johen Sy said. "But with the addition of Ronald Ke, we don't know how to react to their adjustment because he is a great player."

Cobras will have to play without Ben Lim, who is out due to personal reasons. "We just have to double our efforts. But this does not hinder our plan of going for 9. We're doing it with or without Lim." Kent said. "And there's no doubt in my mind that we can do it because we have a great team with great players without egos and dedicated to team play."

Again, all basketball gods will be watching. Destiny is now picking which side he'll be at. RBK Cobras have just done the impossible and there's no questioning the team's desire to win. "The team's hungry. We want that streak." As for Kent, this is another game wherein he can place his legacy and greatness, if ever he can help the team to win. A deja-vu of 2008, Kent is all fired up.

"Winning record on the line and no opponent is better for us to face than our rivals in Quackies. There's no stopping us now, not even the absence of Lim. My sheer will and determination could play a big role for this game and I hope it could inspire the rest of the guys." Kent said.

"Again, I don't see us losing this game. Simple as that."

Cobras Push Win Streak To 8!

|
Trailing by 6 points with less than 2 minutes remaining, RBK Cobras winning streak seems to be in jeopardy.

And with just one final basket needed to snatch their first win of the season, Santas did everything they could to at least preserve the victory.

Miracles happen in basketball, my friends.

RBK Cobras scored the final 8 points in regulation in a miraculous fashion to grit out a come-from behind victory over PSBA Santas 120-118. In what the basketball gods called as a gut-wrenching comeback, Cobras delivered it with style on a game wherein their winning run was at stake. And for Santas, this loss hurts so badly that even their calm star player Anthony was seen frustrated at the bench after the final buzzer.

Greatness. This is what critics described Cobras at the height of their 8 game winning streak.

Trailing 118-112, Kent misfired on a triple but a follow-up by Ronald Ke trims the lead to 4. Santas, desperate for theie first victory, went to Anthony only to have his shot blocked by Ke. Feeling confident, Santas never came back on defense. Kent brought the ball upcourt and sees Chan wide open from the right corner.

Swish.

With the lead slowly evaporating for Santas, 118-117, again desperate for victory went to Anthony again, only to have his shot blocked once again. This time, Ronald Ke ran the ball on a fastbreak play. Needing a triple, he faked but he heard someone whispers "Sa Likod mo".

It was Kent.

As he released a three-point shot with 2 feet far from the normal 3 point line, all eyes were watching the ball whether it would give Cobras their 8th game winning run. Nerves and tension ran through the veins of Santas, knowing they've let Kent have an open look for a game winner. Cobras hold their breathe as they await the outcome of the shot.

Swish. As Kent would say, Game over.

RBK Cobras continued their mastery over PSBA Santas, thanks largely to those 2 juggernaut triples by Kent and Chan to seal the deal. "Unbelievable. We thought our run was over." Lim said.

Not this night. Not with all the basketball gods are sealing Cobras destiny of equalizing their franchise longest run. Not on a night wherein Kent, who was the anchor of the longest run 2 years ago, would be the goat but rather as a hero. Not on a game wherein Ke gave his all out effort for those 2 humongous blocks.

"This loss hurts, no doubt. We have our foot in the door. All we have to do is to close the game. Unbelievable. They've done it with fashion." Santa said.

"This win gave us confidence towards our next game. We're hoping we can match it on Sunday. We want it and we will get it." Chan said.

With what happened on this game? There's no doubt that destiny is siding with the Cobras.

Game Preview: Cobras-Santas

| Saturday, June 12, 2010
YMCA(AP) -The hottest team of the league is simply going for another juggernaut.

Riding on a superb seven game winning streak, RBK Cobras aims to continue their strong push as they tries to win their 8th game in a row and solidifying their chase for the team's longest winning run at 9 games. Victories over Quackies, Santas and Guchitoids have this team feeling good of their chances of reaching or even surpassing the longest winning run that was set last 2008. Their next opponent? PSBA Santas.

And no one remember's the last 9 game winning run better than Michael Kent.

It was during that stretch that Kent's learned his fate 2 years ago. It was also that torrid stretch that Kent played his best basketball of his entire career. It was also during that stretch wherein Cobras became the best team for the year.

Now, it's happening all over again. And Kent avoids history to repeat itself.

Also riding on a torrid shooting, Kent is averaging close to 28 PPG in his last 6 games, an average that resembles 2 years ago. What made Cobras a lot better is the addition of Ronald Ke in their fold and the solid play of their key core players. "We're simply hot. We're firing on all cylinders and honestly, I don't see us losing tomorrow." Chan said. "Once this team starts rolling, ego flatten, then we're a hard team to beat."

With a lineup that is so balance from inside to outside game, Cobras possess all the arsenal that Santas need. The continuous rise of Ben Lim have given Cobras enough hope to win it all over this year. Kent has been the playing solidly for the last 6 games, a perfect timing to play well during the midseason. "If Boston has Paul Pierce, Boston needs the truth. Well for us, we need the tooth. Pierce drives and draws fouls, hoping to get free points from the line. For Kent, it's the same thing. He's peaking nicely and hopefully he continues to play like this." Tsai said.

"This is the perfect time to see us play, see how hard it is to stop a team like RBK Cobras. We have the tools. We have everything. We've never been so confident before so let's get it on." Kent said.

Santas? Edward Santa has to do a better job of playing the point guard position as Lim outplayed him the entire game during their last meeting. "We've got to stop their offensive game. They've got real scorers. They've got a lot of shooters. So, we just have to come out and bring our A-game." Santa said. Santas will rely on Anthony and 2 chawis to impose their running game.

Reality wise, is their any chance that Santas will win tomorrow's game? "No way in hell. That's how confident I am." Kent said. "This is the stretch that I once lose 2 years ago. This is the stretch that best resembles what happened 2 years ago. I will not let history repeat itself."

Cobras Rips Santas! Roll to Their 5th Straight Win

| Monday, May 24, 2010
YMCA(AP) - RBK is really hot right now.

Cobras buckled an off-night from Carlos Chan to nip past PSBA Santas, 115-112 for their 9th win in 14 games. Despite having a rare-offnight from resident shooter Chan, it was the same guy who knocked down the winning triple. Cobras led comfortably, 112-100 before Arnold Tsai came in. Since Tsai's arrival, Santas buckled a 12-0 run that tied the ballgame with one final scoring possession coming up.

Then here comes Chan.

Shooting 0/7 prior to the last made triple, Chan had no hesitation as he released the game winning triple that gave Cobras their longest winning streak of the season at 5 games. "Credit goes to Chan as he knocked down a crucial triple. Despite his shooting woes, he made sure that the goat or hero will fall upon him. " Lim said.

Santas brewed up an almost upset as they even led during the portions of the second half, including an 87-77 lead with 8 minutes to play in the 3rd canto. That's when Lim and Kent shift into high gear as their offense started rolling. Kent's 18 second half points and Lim's 15 ignited a strong rally as they turn a 10 point deficit into a 12 point lead before they relinquished the lead. To make Cobras more stronger is their newly acquired center.

On his wish list ever since GM Cheng managed the team, Cheng finally picked up a gem as he was able to sign Ronald Ke for the remainder of the season. And this Dwight Howard comparison stats backed up the signing of Cheng as a smart move. Ke finished with 16 points 12 rebounds 6 blocks and 4 assists to give Cobras the inside presence that they're missing for the last couple of seasons. "We're just glad to have him on the team. It gives us a more defensive presence. Offense has never been a problem for us. It was defense. Now we have 2 defensive pioneers in Peewa and Ke." Kent said.

As for Santas, they have nothing put praise to offer for Cobras. "This unit are tough to play. They're spreading the ball. They've got a lot of shooters. They can run and play half court offense at the same time. Maybe we caught them at a wrong time since they've just won their 5th straight game." Edward Santa said.

This will be an interesting season for Cobras. Can they break their longest winning record of 9 recorded last 2008?

Cobras Earn First May 10 Win!

| Friday, May 14, 2010
Ben Lim knows Michael Kent so well.

Why not? Friends for 21 years, teammates for 6 years. There's no one person who knows better Michael Kent than Dicky Lim.

After witnessing a disastrous first half, Lim approached Kent and gave a one-word piece of advice.

Focus.

That's what the latter just did.

Michael Kent recovered from a horrible first half to help RBK Cobras obtain their first May 10 win in nearly 2 years, sweeping past Alex Guchitoids 129-125. Visible frustrated in the first half, Kent scattered 14 of his 24 points in the second half, including 4 triples to snap out of his shooting slump and sending Guchitoids to their first defeat of the season.

"He has a knack of losing focus during games. So i just told him to stay focus and his shots will come. Fortunately, he was able to rediscover his shooting touch and help this team win." Lim said. "I think the credit goes to Lim. He pacifies things when things getting out of control. It's like a court general." Kent said.

First half saw Cobras playing a different style with Aries Enriquez manning the point. With less ball movement and more running game, Cobras were seem annoyed with the way they're playing as they held on to a slim 60-56 halftime advantage. Poch paced Guchitoids with an early 26 points in the first half alone.

Second half came and saw Lim dominate like any point guard will do. Distributing the ball evenly and creating open shots, Lim lived up to his expectation since Kent moved him from shooting to point guard. Evidently with his pin point passing skills, Lim led Cobras second half surge, turning a 88-76 deficit into a 110-98 lead with 5 minutes remaining in the match. It was during the pivotal stretch wherein Kent rediscovered his shooting touch.

"It feels great to get the first May 10 win. It's like our monkey's off our back. Now i can sleep soundly during my sleep. The hype's over. Now we can focus on our season and continue our winning ways." Kent said. "They're a touch team to cover. They've got Tsai, who is an inside scorer and they have shooters that can hurt your team." Poch said.

As for Kent, he can remember this game as a souvenier. Critics gave Kent a shot that people would remember May 10,2010. His three-pointer over the outstretched arms of Poch has already drew comparison from "the shot" of Michael Jordan over Craig Ehlo to propel Chicago Bulls past Cleveland Cavs. "Thank you for making this game worth remembering." Kent acknowledge his teammates.

"This will not be the last time Kent will be thanking us. There's still a lot of games left to play." Lim said.

Player Diary: May 10. A Date To Remember

| Saturday, May 8, 2010
Less than 24 hours, we will witness the most awaited game of the year for RBK Cobras. In less than 24 hours, the YMCA gym will be full-packed and rocking. For each Cobras fan, they know what May 10 means. They know the resemblance of this given date for a player wearing a Cobras uniform.

For 2 years that he was thrown into the limelight, thanks largely to the message that Sheila Gaw relayed at exactly 7:34AM of May 10,2008, Michael Kent has accepted his fate and publicly declared that he has moved on from the incident. Coming into this awaited May 10 game of 2010, a single question awaits the latter that would change the complexion of the game.

Is Michael Kent REALLY, really moved on from May 10,2008 incident?

"Yes. No doubt." Kent answered without hesitation.

But his teammates beg to differ.

"We all know what kind of hell Sheila brought to Michael upon her decision to dump him 2 years ago. Will this guy moved on after all the things he has done to improve himself? Will he be thinking of redemption if he has moved on? Now that he's a better man, this is his time to give up? I don't think so. I know deep inside the latter, he still has feelings for judge and has some grudges towards her." Chan said.

Grudges? This is the guy who once declared his new year's resolution. See the link of his personal blog: http://www.gameover34.com/2009/12/as-year-2009-comes-to-close-let-me-wish.html

Redemption. One strong word that Kent used to describe his feelings towards Gaw. For two years, Kent turned from an lazy,social-less obese loser into a athlete, runner, photographer and a player. He once turned an round shape body into a flat-cored appearance. It was also the same guy who dedicated himself to burn all the baby fats he once had in hopes that Sheila would be impressed in his new look.

For 2 years, he strived and persevered to improve his physical appearance. He used Sheila as his dedication and motivation to perform better, in hopes that one day their roads will cross again. He used Sheila as his will, in hopes to prove to each CKSC alumni that Sheila made the biggest mistake of her life.

For 2 years, their roads never crossed again.

Sheila Gaw moved on, committing to Ericson Gochuico as his newest boyfriend. As for Kent? Still waiting in vain. "Game over. I just kept telling myself, game over." Kent said. Is it? For all the things he worked for, is it really game over? "Yes. It's over." Kent answered back.

Fans have been hoping that 2010 is the year that CKSC Rabbits will face RBK Cobras once again, in hopes of reviving a Gochuico-Kent matchup. But fans would just have to settle for a matchup between Cobras-Gochuitoids, featuring a Gochuico look-alike in Ben Guch.

Despite that, fans are still hoping that Rabbits-Cobras matchup will push through even once. "We all support Mongy. This is a sad love story. Is this really the end?" a unidentified fan said. Guch might have money but Kent has everything, raising concerns that Sheila might just be blinded by money. "Let's not drag her into this." Kent, in defense said.

As for tomorrow's game, Kent has said that it's just a ordinary game, regardless of May 10 or not. The most important thing is to come out on top. But again, his teammates beg to differ.

"This is a day that Kent will remember for the rest of his life. This comes only once a year. So I know, this guy will give his 101% tomorrow. I know deep inside, he wants to win so badly tomorrow." Lim said. "Guch has Gaw. Guch has the financial resources. Kent has nothing to lose. In fact, he has said that basketball has inspired him in a lot of ways. This is one way to bring out all his frustrations on Gaw and move on."

Kent has been struggling this couple of games after a strong start. Some observers say that he has been saving his game for this event.

"No. I'm just plain struggling." Kent said.

The hype for this game has just got bigger, bigger than the NBA playoffs. All eyes will be on Michael Kent, from the moment he enters the gym up to the moment the final buzzer sounds. This is a game where basketball gods watch helplessly as Kent tries to fight his fate against a team that resembles Sheila's current boyfriend. This is a game where 2 teams fight with everything they've got just for a W.

This is a game where the road of redemption starts....

Kent vowed redemption and he'll definitely get it. His mission of letting Sheila realized she made a mistake of dumping him starts here. With a superman sign patch ready, Kent has declared he MIGHT wear it for tomorrow's game.

"If i wear it, it would be the final time."

Go get them tiger, as the slogan says. This is the game where Kent will plant his legacy and prove to everyone that he is better than Gochuico. This is the game where redemption will play a large role. This is a game where Kent can supplant his name into the record books.

Lastly, this is a game which Sheila could watch all over again and again and witness the guy that he dumped 2 years ago blossom into the guy that she'll regret dumping for the rest of her life.

Game Preview: Cobras VS Guchitoids

| Tuesday, May 4, 2010
YMCA (AP) - This would be the first expansion team to face RBK Cobras this year.

And this is not an ordinary game. This game means a lot for 2 pioneers of Cobras.

Carlos Chan and Michael Kent, 2 pioneers of RBK will try to carry the fight for the Cobras as they face a new team called Alex and the Guchitoids. With renewed passion coming into this game, both are expected to bring out their A-game. "Chan has been shooting the ball very well. Opponents know that his game lives and dies on three-pointers. But not Guchitoids. For sure, we'll feed him the ball and it's up to him to prove to Alex that he's greater than him." Lim said.

Chan has been dreaming of this matchup for a very long time and GM Cheng made sure that this one of a lifetime matchup push through. "They know I'm hungry to face the friends of Alex. This is an acid test for us as a team. With all the adversity I'm facing through, we're all confident that we can surpass Guchitoids with flying colors." Chan added.

As for Kent, he has been mum on this matchup. Guchitoids will be parading Ben Guch, a look-alike of Ericson Guchuico, the current BF of Sheila Gaw. "For sure, Mongs will be firing on all cylinders on Sunday. Ever since he was dumped, he was dreaming that one day he will be facing Guch in a basketball arena. Well, now is his preview. This is his test. Based on scouting reports, Guchitoids is a class A team, meaning they're not an easy team to beat. From what I know from this guy, he has a knack of bringing his best game when facing a tough opponent." Tsai said.

"It will be no surprise to us if he came out with his best game on Sunday."

But Kent was quick to downplay the incident. "Let's just focus on Carlos Chan. This is his game. We're all here to support him as he tries to outgun the friend of Alex. We know what he's going through right now and we're here to support the lad."

"Let's focused on how to win ballgames rather than dragging the stupid son of a bitch Ericson Guchioco into this conversation. This is supposed to be an interview, not bashing session. So, that name does not deserve to be part of our conversation."

Guchitoids will be led by Racelis brothers, the guy who keeps his follow-through after releasing a shot. Ben Guch and Mr. Kang will banner the frontcourt of Guchitoids as they face a dangerous frontline of Peewa, the comebacking Arnold Tsai and Kent of Cobras.

Can Cobras outlast a new team in Guchitoids? The last time they faced an expansion team that they lost during the initial meeting was against Grace Pakers. Now, could the trend reverse?

"Hopefully. We are also hoping Arnold Tsai be a defensive asset not liability." Kent quipped.

ODDS:

Halftime: Guchitoids +8 VS COBRAS
Fulltime: Guchitoids +16 VS COBRAS

TSAI ON THE BLOCK?!

| Monday, April 26, 2010
Binondo (AP) - Are RBK Cobras serious about giving up on Arnold Tsai?

Tsai, a once top prospect and franchise player, is rumored to be on the go after GM Cheng launched an online poll regarding what to do with his top prized free agent pickup last 2004. After posting 2 winning records in 2007 and 2008 thanks largely to the development of Tsai, Cheng is keen on revamping his roster after suffering a disastrous 2009 and a slow start this 2010.

"Unfortunately, ever since I put the guy into the franchise player role, he became extremely confident. It was like Andray Blatche of the NBA. He started become complacent and a liability on defense." Cheng said. After wowing everyone after he signed Tsai to a 7 year contract last 2004, Cheng now looks bad on paper after his team is placed last on the points allowed per game, and there's only one person to blame.

"Obviously when they played zone defense, we seldom see three people inside the lane. There's always one missing. Also during fastbreak defense, we NEVER see him running and hustling on defense. Plus, his offensive production has dipped." an unidentified source revealed. There's also sighting that which no player ever done in the court, like stealing the substitution from your teammate. "Obviously, the guy is now arrogant. But he's gifted with an offensive skills. For sure, there are interested teams that might want his services but I'm not sure if he can fit the bill. GM Cheng has given him the opportunity to shine but now I wonder which GM would give him another shot of being franchise player." another unidentified source said.

GM Cheng has his pair of criticism including his draft day busts, Patrick Cheng and Ericson Ty. He made up his reputation by signing Tsai to a multi-year contract and signed defensive stopper Jose Peewa Abrencillo also to a multi-year contract. His patience paid off as these two players have blossomed into great players. Lim evolved into a natural point guard and Chan has become one of the deadliest shooters of all time. "I think without a doubt that if I picked great players like Enriquez, Dy or anybody, these people would not have been exposed and developed into great players." Cheng said.

Now, he's ready to break the bond between him and Tsai.

"It's about winning. Fans made it clear that they're not happy with the way he's performing. Another good thing is that he already has an expiring contract. Trading him to Quackies for low profile players such as Michael Avelino or potpot makes sense before splashing to next year's free agent class." Cheng added.

One thing's for sure. Tsai would surely add offensive firepower to the team he will be dealt to. But, defensively, there's a slight problem.

For now.

Cobras Snap Skid! Dealt Panots First Loss!

|
YMCA(AP)- If Aries Enriquez is the answer for the Cobrs, GM Cheng, please sign the latter for the rest of the season.

Enriquez, the former starting guard of the disbanded Campers, showned brightly on both ends of the court to power Cobras to a scintillating 140-122 trashing of the rusty Ponry Panots. Buckled by the absence of Mr. Chawi due to injury, Enriquez used his speed and clutch outside shooting to help Cobras end their worst 4 game skid. "Probably, he could have played better but there's no use to use his entire arsenal since the opponent was rusty plus the fact that their starting guard was out due to injury. He played great and the rest of us followed." Kent said.

"He might be the best player on the other side. He changed speed, distributed the ball and shot well. There's nothing we could ask for." Jasper Chu said. In a physical game that saw 2 injuries, it was Chu, who was labeled the dirtiest player of the league, struck first. He elbowed Gerald Abrencillo in the stomach, which the latter reacted by falling to the floor hard. "I think that play ignited us." Enriquez said.

The following possession saw Mr. Chawi dislocated his right arm. Chawi was then rushed to the hospital for precautionary reasons, leaving Chu and Mr. Beanpole to carry the offensive load. "That play left us dumbfounded. We preserved Chawi off the bench so that he can have the energy to lead our team but unfortunately injured on the ensuing play." Chu said. With Cobras firing on all cylinders, Panots were left wondering what hit them as a 60-52 halftime deficit was ballooned into a huge 86-62 hole. "We just fired away. Lim and Chan was hitting their outside shots. Tsai and Peewa during their best inside the lane and Gerald was playing heads-up basketball." Enriquez said. Cobras were playing so well that they didn't even need the scoring of Michael Kent, who finished with just 13 points.

"Kudos to the team. They played well. Actually we played inspired basketball." Kent said. Inspired could be the perfect word as Chan played against Jasper Chu, the textmate of Crestine Cu, the latest victim of Chan. "Whenever we saw those two going at each other, it's like david vs goliath. Cyempre si Django ang goliath natalo kasi nyahahaha!!" Tsai quipped. As for Kent, he got a preview of facing Guchuico as Panots paraded an alien look-alike of Ericson Guchuico. "No comment. As long as the team wins, it's fine with me." Kent answered.

Notes: In a KARMA bizarre story, Kent and Chan was joking around during a substitution. Kent was kidding Chan about Crestine then suddenly Mr. Kelbinson Keh, ms Giodano Berua, Ms. Grace Chong and an unidentified alien crossed the upper box of YMCA. For those people who don't know these persons, these are the close friends of Sheila Gaw. Not once, but twice. In another bizarre BWAKAW story, Tsai INAGAWAN SI CHAN NG PLAYING TIME!! As Chan was ready to field back in, Tsai ran toward the court to take the place of Chan, leaving Chan at the bench for another 20 minutes. Again, in any league, no stupid crazy idiotic mammal would ever do this action. That just proves that Tsai is a SUPER BWAKAW!!

Fans of Cobras, good news! Sick and tired of Arnold Tsai? GM Cheng has released an online poll in this website titled "Should Tsai stay or go?" This is in response to several fans and even TEAMMATES complaining that Tsai is a lazy mammal. Should Tsai stay or go? RBK Cobras is now re-evaluating their current roster and Tsai had been linked to the rumors for almost a year. Please go to http://rbkcobras.blogspot.com and look at the upper right corner. Vote wisely. My vote? YES!!! HE SHOULD GO!!! NYAHAHAHA

COBRAS CRUSH QUACKIES 120-101

YMCA – A week after pulling down a crucial rebound, Cobra guard Carlos Chan was at it again this time burning the opposition with his hot shooting. Chan dropped ten 3 point bombs against the Quackies throughout the game with 9 of the coming in the 2nd half. It was extra special for Chan as he is celebrating his 26th birthday this coming Saturday. “Wala e… kahit anung gawin namin pasok talaga lahat ng tira niya… Nakabox 1 na nga kami pero wala talaga nakakawala pa din…” a visibly frustrated Dewey Uy said after the game.

“Maganda pinakita niya itong game na to… Dapat every week ganyan siya kasi important part ng game namin ang shooting niya.” Lim said. “He stretches out the defense and opens up the middle making it easier for the rest of us to operate and slash to the basket.” he added.

After the game a sleepy and tired GM/Forward Michael Cheng only had praises for his player “everyone on the court knew very well what he is capable of doing but we didn’t expect him to explode like that. It’s a very good sign for the team when a player starts to get his groove on the court. Pero kahit kaming mga kakampi niya nagulat sa pinakita niya.”

But it was no walk in the park for the Cobras. In fact it was a tight game in the 1st half wherein Chan struggled for only 3pts, shooting a miserable 1 out of 6 from the field, and Peewa Abrencillo, who finished with 12 pts, could not find the mark. Being short handed without the high leaping Jigger and guard Pot Pot.. Cheng was able to employ his inside outside game and big man/loud mouth Arnold Tsai was able to dominate inside the painted area. The former putting on his usual solid number with 23pts while the latter tallied a double-double performance pulling down 10 rebounds answering critics who have been constantly criticizing his defensive play. “Utos ng utos si maestro! E kung magulang ko nga e hindi ako mautusan! Henyo talaga ako! Wahahahaha!” the interview was cut short due to the worthless stuff that Tsai said.

Roger Chan, who in the previous game played a career low 20minutes, was interviewed after the game about why he was already playing so soon after the injury. “libre e…” he was quoted as saying. He played 40 minutes in this game which is right around his average.

Newcomer Berwin Meily paced the Quackies with 21 points.

NOTE: Chan’s 10 3pt conversions is the most by a Cobra player. The record for the most 3’s in a game, which is 15, is still held by Aji Ichiban Tanlo. The 37pts by Chan is also a season high for any player this year. RBK struggled from the free throw line for the 2nd straight game shooting 15 out of 25. GM Cheng participated in the fun run before the game and ended up shooting 1 air ball from the field and 1 air ball from the foul line. Lim dished out 9 assists failing to reach double figures in that department for the 2nd straight game. Chan’s post game celebration was held at Brazil Brazil at the fort wherein GM Cheng called Chan “vertically challenged”

OTHER NOTES: Please mark March 25 27 29 31 April 1 3 5 7 9 11… These are very good dates to have a breakup.

COBRAS SURGE PAST QUACKIES 91-87 ON CHAN’S HEROICS

YMCA – “Rebound!” that was the essential word this time around. Cobra mainstay Carlos Chan, despite battling with his personal issues, pulled down perhaps one, if no THE, most important rebound of the game. Leading 89-87 after a layup by Daniel Chua off a crucial turnover by Cobra big man Arnold Tsai, the Cobras needed just one stop and one basket to seal the game. In the ensuing play, “kuya Kaw” committed a turnover that lead to a fastbreak layup by Ben Lim. Unfortunately, Lim missed the layup which set up the scene for Chan’s heroics. After grabbing the crucial REBOUND, Chan passed off to a streaking Kent who converted to finish off the Quackies.

“Actually di naman kami nagugulat sa ginawa ngayon ni Django kasi una sa lahat, isa siya sa hussle players namin” said Reaport. “Tsaka pangalawa alam naman naming na every game he gives 110% effort mapaoffense o mapadefense tulad nun REBOUND nya ganun talaga siya maglaro.” Added Cheng.

In the post game interview Chan had this to say “resulta yan ng lagi akong nasisigawan ng ‘rebound Carlos rebound!’ ng mga hayop kong kakampi… tsaka siguro right place at the right time, yun lang yun… sana ganun din ako sa issue ko ngayon…”

On the other hand, this game was highlighted by some physicalities between the players including a mid-air collision between rising star Pot Pot and defensive anchor Peewa Abrencillo wherein the latter sent the former sprawling to the ground after blocking his shot. “ganun talaga… basta sa akin, clean block yun… t@n%*^& mo jack!” Peewa was quoted as saying after the incident. Despite nursing an injured finger, embattled Cobra forward Arnold Tsai was able to hold his own both on the offensive end and surprisingly on the defensive end. Tsai was being publicly criticized by his teammates for failing to perform on defense.

NOTE: this game marked the 2nd time this season that a player was injured during the shootaround both coming from the Cobra team. Visiting barangay league scouts wer turned off by Tsai’s poor shot selection and by the fact that a man of his size was scared of blood. Cobras shot 11 out of 23 free throws for a woeful 47.82%. Roger Chan played only 25 minutes leaving with an injured right foot, it was a new season low for the Cobra’s latest veteran acquisition. “Teka, sub muna… alamin ko muna sino nanalo sa laban ni Pacquiao!” Roger was quoted saying. Cobra guard-forward-GM-waterboy Cheng came in late due to “personal” reasons, drawing comments from his teammates particularly his long time friend Lim. Lim had only this to say regarding Cheng’s tardiness “dapat responsible siya. Alam naman niya na malaki ang role niya sa team tapos malelate siya sa game. Alam na niya ang dapat niyang gawin.. At dapat na niya gawin to tuwing ODD number ang date!”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This recap was born out of extreme boredom…

Game Preview Number 6: Cobras(3-2) Vs Quackies(2-3)

| Saturday, February 27, 2010
YMCA (AP) - After their winning streak had been snapped, RBK Cobras aims to start a new winning run anew.

But they'll have to do it without Arnold Tsai.

Tsai would not be available Sunday as RBK Cobras hosts Dexter Quackies at YMCA gym. Tsai, who sprained his right ankle in the third quarter of their last encounter, still felt soreness on his injury and decides to rests his ankle at least one more game. "It's the right thing to do. Be smart. Do not force the injury. It's way too early for the seaon." Lim said.

Without Tsai, the responsibilities of rebounding falls unto Peewa Abrencillo and Roger Chan. "Those two guys must step up. Both are good-caliber rebounding players and we hope that these two are enough to offset the loss of Tsai." Kent said. In their last encounter, Jigger took advantage the injury of Tsai to post a career-high 42 points in leading Quackies to a 130-124 victory. "We've got to stop Quackies from dominating the board. That's just one way of controlling the tempo." Kent added.

For Quackies, they must limit the scoring punches of Kent and Lim. The duo are reviving the old Great Wall of China days as both combined for 78 of the 124 points of Cobras the last time around. "One thing those two guys have that we don't is their familiarity. The two have been playing together for years and it's no wonder these two jive with each other." Kaw said. "If we want to win tomorrow, at least we must contain either one of them."

Another rising guard for Quackies is Potpot, who is norming 16 PPG in his last 3 games. This also marks the first game of post-Dexter Sze era of Quackies. "Potpot has been playing well and hopefully, he can sustain and become the perfect replacement of Dexter." Sy said. "We know we still have to adjust but we know we'll be fine."

ODDS: Cobras + 4 VS Quackies

Game Recap Number 5: Jigger Leads Quackies Past Cobras!

| Sunday, February 21, 2010
YMCA (AP) - Dexter Sze gave Quackies something to celebrate before leaving for Vigan for good.

Dexter Quackies rolled past RBK Cobras 130-124 behind Jigger's career night and making Sze's farewell game more eventful. Snapping a 3 game skid without Johen Sy, Quackies leaned on Jiger and Dexter Sze as the duo frustrated Cobras, dispatching any rallies set by Cobras. "We know once we got the big lead in the first half, it won't last long since they're top gunners aren't performing to the level we know they can. It turns out we were right and luckily we were able to fend off their multiply rally attempts." Kaw said.

Leading 60-42 in the first half, Cobras went to work. Ben Lim and Michael Kent, reviving the "Great Wall of China" duo days, started the rally. Lim scoring 20 of his 37 points in the payoff period while Kent complementing 25 of his 36 points that got Cobras rolling. Trailing 82-62, Kent and Lim started a furious rally that saw the 20 point deficit shrink to 6 points in the final 2 minutes of the game, 124-118. Off-setting the injury of Arnold Tsai, Peewa dominated the rebounds and intense interior defense that held Quackies scoreless for 3 minutes. "We're just started slow, that made the lead insurmountable. We're able to cut down the lead but in the end, we ran out of gas." Kent said.

Dexter Sze, who will be leaving for Vigan this Tuesday, played like there's tomorrow. Playing leech-like defense on the hottest player of Cobras, Kent, Sze also scored 20 points but mosre importantly, holding down Kent to 9/20 shooting, his first game with 20 or more attempts. "We're just trying to pressure him. He added dimension to his game and there's no better way than to limit him is to play man to man defense with our best defender." Kaw said.

But it was PotPot and Jigger putting the finishing kicks for Quackies.

"We're doing fine. We just have to start strong. This game, we dug ourselves in a hole. They played great without Johen Sy. We'll be fine." Kent said.

Notes: When Arnold Tsai was injured, 3 of his closest friends namely Kent, Djangs and Lim were seen smiling. It was only revealed than Chan was laughing out loud. Quackies's kaw, who ran earlier morning at Century Tuna Fun run, played and nailed a key 3-pointer to put the game out of reach.

Game No. 5 Preview: RBK Cobras(3-1) VS Dexter Quackies(1-3)

| Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Credit Dexter Sze for being a martyr on this one.

Despite rumors that Sze would leave Quackies for Vigan, Sze returns to the hard court on more time wearing a Quackies uniform as they tries to avoid fourth straight defeat on the hands of red-hot RBK Cobras this Sunday at YMCA gym. Blessed that his trip was cancelled, Sze aims to lead the slumping Quackies against their rivals for almost 3 years, the Cobras. "If there's one bright spot for us is my departure was cancelled." Sze recalled.

"This year, we're not playing to our expectations."

After winning the opening game convincingly, Quackies suffered three straight defeats, all against Cobras as they slumped to a dead-last record of 1-3. Worst, Johen Sy will not play this Sunday due to an apparent injury.

Now, it's up to Sze to live up to his hype.

"We need the guy now. Without Johen, we're hard pressed to snap out of this losing streak." Kaw said. "We're in a hole. Facing this team makes it even tougher." One thing that Cobras got going is their outside shots.

Carlos Chan seems to break out of slump, hitting 25 points including 7 triples the last time around. After 3 subpar games, Chan busts out and played his best game of the season. "Chan took over the last time around. We must do a better job defending their perimeter shooters." Kaw said. Gerald and Peewa also played their share during the run, with Ge running the offense and Peewa playing solid defense. "Those 2 as we all agreed are their X-factors. If those 2 played well, they're unstoppable. As evident to last game, those 2 came in and provided energy and their whole team running at full speed."

With Ben Lim out due to personal reason, all eyes will be on Michael Kent as the latter has been playing his best basketball of his career. 2 games into the season, Kent has been flirting with a triple double, the best statline of his whole career. Averaging 20.5 PPG 8 RPG 8 APG on 45% shooting while attempting 70% from the foul line, Kent has been on-track of his mission of proving critics wrong. "This is his game. It's his true test. Playing without our point guard and distributor, this game will be his mark if he's ready to be marked as the same level with Johen Sy, Rhyan Williams and Boy Putok." Tsai said. "Nonetheless, we know he can handle everything thrown at him. Just like we've been telling him before, confidence. Now, he's had that, there's no stopping the tooth."

Notes: Valentines Day was just around. We asked random Cobras how they spend their Valentines and luckily, we picked Kent. He answered. "Spent my Valentines at home watching the NBA all star. Then watched PBA, wherein my 500 flew away.. lecheng Tubid yan. Then spent my entire night biting my nails as I finally won 1000 thanks to Mike Cortez. Carlos Chan also win 1400 in ending, thanks to Cortez again.

Recap Game Number 4: CHAN SPOILS SZE'S FAREWELL GAME!

| Sunday, February 7, 2010
YMCA(AP) - So long Dexter Sze.

Playing his last game before going to Vigan for good, Carlos Chan made sure that his final game will be a bitter one.

After critics criticized his shooting, Chan responded with a season high 25 points, on top of 7 3-pointers to propel the hot shooting RBK Cobras past Dexter Quackies 131-119 for their second straight victory. Coming into the ballgame shooting just 25% from the 3-point line, Chan proved doubters that his best game has yet to come.

Did he ever showed why he's the all time franchise leader in three-pointers made.

Chan went 7/11 from the 3-point line, including 5 straight in the first half to turn a 31-27 deficit to a commanding 61-55 lead at the half. His shooting off-set another poor shooting performance from Arnold Tsai as he single-handedly lead the team turn a deficit. His shooting also created openings for Kent, Peewa and Lim to drive the lane as the trio combined for 32 points in the first half alone.

"The guy's just so hot that Gerald, Ben and Waps continued to drive the lane. When we clogged the middle, this guy killed us literally with his outside shots." Sy said. Sze, playing his final game, finished with a 21 points as he struggled offensively from the tenacious defense of Cobras. "They gave us the outside shots. They know that our gameplay is to drive the lane so they decided to give us outside shots. We just can't convert any." Sze said.

If Quackies can't buy an outside shot, Cobras has earned a lot from outside shooting, thanks particularly to Chan.

"What a game. He responded big time despite the off-court issue that is haunting him." Kent said. "Tsai played a terrible game and this guy carried us offensively. What more can i say from our shooting guard."

In their first matchup since losing the MVP race to Johen Sy last year, Kent continued to back his prediction of being a less-crocky player as he flirted with a triple-double, a feat he last accomplished 2 years ago. Finishing with 19 points 8 rebounds and 9 assists on top of 8/17 shooting, this marks the second consecutive game that the latter attempted less than 20 shots. "Obviously, this guy is really on a mission. He kept telling us that he plans to attempt less shots and create plays during the game and that's what he did. If Chan and Kent plays like the way they did tonight, we'll have a season to remember." Lim said.

"He's like a man-possessed right now. That's all I can say. I'm having chills seeing him develop the extra pass." Lim said.

As for Sze, this might be his last game of the season. "It's sad to see Dexter leave the team. We're playing well and he's having a special season. It's unfortunate for the team having a player such as Sze to leave the team. We're short-handed but we'll be fine. The loss of Sze will not stop us from fighting and giving out 100% of our effort." Kaw said.
