Ben Lim knows Michael Kent so well.
Why not? Friends for 21 years, teammates for 6 years. There's no one person who knows better Michael Kent than Dicky Lim.
After witnessing a disastrous first half, Lim approached Kent and gave a one-word piece of advice.
Focus.
That's what the latter just did.
Michael Kent recovered from a horrible first half to help RBK Cobras obtain their first May 10 win in nearly 2 years, sweeping past Alex Guchitoids 129-125. Visible frustrated in the first half, Kent scattered 14 of his 24 points in the second half, including 4 triples to snap out of his shooting slump and sending Guchitoids to their first defeat of the season.
"He has a knack of losing focus during games. So i just told him to stay focus and his shots will come. Fortunately, he was able to rediscover his shooting touch and help this team win." Lim said. "I think the credit goes to Lim. He pacifies things when things getting out of control. It's like a court general." Kent said.
First half saw Cobras playing a different style with Aries Enriquez manning the point. With less ball movement and more running game, Cobras were seem annoyed with the way they're playing as they held on to a slim 60-56 halftime advantage. Poch paced Guchitoids with an early 26 points in the first half alone.
Second half came and saw Lim dominate like any point guard will do. Distributing the ball evenly and creating open shots, Lim lived up to his expectation since Kent moved him from shooting to point guard. Evidently with his pin point passing skills, Lim led Cobras second half surge, turning a 88-76 deficit into a 110-98 lead with 5 minutes remaining in the match. It was during the pivotal stretch wherein Kent rediscovered his shooting touch.
"It feels great to get the first May 10 win. It's like our monkey's off our back. Now i can sleep soundly during my sleep. The hype's over. Now we can focus on our season and continue our winning ways." Kent said. "They're a touch team to cover. They've got Tsai, who is an inside scorer and they have shooters that can hurt your team." Poch said.
As for Kent, he can remember this game as a souvenier. Critics gave Kent a shot that people would remember May 10,2010. His three-pointer over the outstretched arms of Poch has already drew comparison from "the shot" of Michael Jordan over Craig Ehlo to propel Chicago Bulls past Cleveland Cavs. "Thank you for making this game worth remembering." Kent acknowledge his teammates.
"This will not be the last time Kent will be thanking us. There's still a lot of games left to play." Lim said.
