COBRAS SURGE PAST QUACKIES 91-87 ON CHAN’S HEROICS

YMCA – “Rebound!” that was the essential word this time around. Cobra mainstay Carlos Chan, despite battling with his personal issues, pulled down perhaps one, if no THE, most important rebound of the game. Leading 89-87 after a layup by Daniel Chua off a crucial turnover by Cobra big man Arnold Tsai, the Cobras needed just one stop and one basket to seal the game. In the ensuing play, “kuya Kaw” committed a turnover that lead to a fastbreak layup by Ben Lim. Unfortunately, Lim missed the layup which set up the scene for Chan’s heroics. After grabbing the crucial REBOUND, Chan passed off to a streaking Kent who converted to finish off the Quackies.

“Actually di naman kami nagugulat sa ginawa ngayon ni Django kasi una sa lahat, isa siya sa hussle players namin” said Reaport. “Tsaka pangalawa alam naman naming na every game he gives 110% effort mapaoffense o mapadefense tulad nun REBOUND nya ganun talaga siya maglaro.” Added Cheng.

In the post game interview Chan had this to say “resulta yan ng lagi akong nasisigawan ng ‘rebound Carlos rebound!’ ng mga hayop kong kakampi… tsaka siguro right place at the right time, yun lang yun… sana ganun din ako sa issue ko ngayon…”

On the other hand, this game was highlighted by some physicalities between the players including a mid-air collision between rising star Pot Pot and defensive anchor Peewa Abrencillo wherein the latter sent the former sprawling to the ground after blocking his shot. “ganun talaga… basta sa akin, clean block yun… t@n%*^& mo jack!” Peewa was quoted as saying after the incident. Despite nursing an injured finger, embattled Cobra forward Arnold Tsai was able to hold his own both on the offensive end and surprisingly on the defensive end. Tsai was being publicly criticized by his teammates for failing to perform on defense.

NOTE: this game marked the 2nd time this season that a player was injured during the shootaround both coming from the Cobra team. Visiting barangay league scouts wer turned off by Tsai’s poor shot selection and by the fact that a man of his size was scared of blood. Cobras shot 11 out of 23 free throws for a woeful 47.82%. Roger Chan played only 25 minutes leaving with an injured right foot, it was a new season low for the Cobra’s latest veteran acquisition. “Teka, sub muna… alamin ko muna sino nanalo sa laban ni Pacquiao!” Roger was quoted saying. Cobra guard-forward-GM-waterboy Cheng came in late due to “personal” reasons, drawing comments from his teammates particularly his long time friend Lim. Lim had only this to say regarding Cheng’s tardiness “dapat responsible siya. Alam naman niya na malaki ang role niya sa team tapos malelate siya sa game. Alam na niya ang dapat niyang gawin.. At dapat na niya gawin to tuwing ODD number ang date!”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This recap was born out of extreme boredom…
